Find Music Lessons

Hi, I’m McCoy! I’m a drummer, educator, composer, arranger, and producer with a background in jazz, rudimental percussion, hip-hop, and contemporary music.

I grew up surrounded by music and was fortunate to study with mentors who gave me a strong technical foundation while encouraging me to develop my own musical voice. Today, I’m continuing that journey while pursuing my Master of Music in Performer-Composer at The New School in Manhattan.

Along with teaching private students, I write and teach for high school, collegiate, and professional drumlines, and regularly perform throughout New York and New England as the bandleader of my own group, The McCoy Plaisted Project.

In lessons, I want students to develop great technique, strong musical instincts, and the confidence to express themselves behind the drums. I enjoy introducing students to different styles, helping them understand how rhythm works, and encouraging them to become creative musicians rather than simply learning patterns.

My goal is to make lessons challenging, inspiring, and fun, while giving each student the skills and confidence to find their own sound.
